Quick Candied Yams - Bruce's Yams

We’ve perfected this 4-ingredient holiday side dish! After all, its just not Thanksgiving without the Candied Yams.

1 (40 oz.) can Bruce’s Yams Cut Sweet Potatoes; drained and syrup reserved
1/2 cup butter
2/3 cup white or brown sugar
2/3 cup syrup from can

  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • Place Bruce’s Yams Cut Sweet Potatoes in a shallow baking dish; set aside.
  • Combine butter, sugar and syrup in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer until thicken, stirring occasionally.
  • Pour sauce over sweet potatoes, and bake for 20-30 minutes. Sweet potatoes may be sprinkled with nutmeg and/or ground cinnamon before serving.

Southern Style Favorite Yams - Bruce's Yams

Dress your holiday table with this crowd favorite! Our Southern Style Favorite Yams offer a creamy sweet potato side dish featuring light brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice and mini marshmallows.

Ingredients:

1 (40 oz.) can Bruce’s Yams Cut Sweet Potatoes in Syrup (drained well)
2 egg yolks
3 tbs. melted (cooled) unsalted butter
1/3 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1-1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice (or 1 tsp. cinnamon and 1/2 tsp. nutmeg)
1-1/2 cups mini marshmallows

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • In the bowl of a mixer, combine the Bruce’s Yams, egg yolks and butter.
  • When blended add cream, brown sugar and spices; transfer to a 1 quart (6” x 9”) glass baking dish (or a 9” pie plate). Cover top of casserole with mini marshmallows and bake for 25-30 minutes until tops of marshmallows are light golden brown.
  • *For a variation: Spread an 8 oz. (well drained) can of crushed pineapple on top of casserole before covering with mini marshmallows.

This is a compilation of a couple of different recipes I found on the web. My husband loves sweet potatoes with LOTS of marshmallows and wanted a casserole like one of his aunts used to make. After a few trials, this was the final incarnation. It is now a Thanksgiving staple for both his and my family’s dinners.

Total time: 55 minutes

Prep time: 15 minutes

Cook time: 40 minutes

Yield: 6 serving(s)

Ingredients:

1 (40 ounce) can bruce cut yams, drained
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 egg, beaten
4 tablespoons melted butter
1 (16 ounce) bag miniature marshmallows

Steps:

  • Spray 1 quart baking dish with Pam.
  • Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Mash yams in a large bowl and add brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, egg, and melted butter.
  • Mix well.
  • Place 1/2 mixture in baking dish.
  • Top with a layer of marshmallows, then add remaining mixture.
  • Bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and top with remaining marshmallows.
  • Turn oven to broil and move casserole to the upper middle rack. Broil for approximately 5 minutes or until marshmallows are lightly browned.
