What Is Chocolate Gravy?

Chocolate gravy is a mixture of gravy prepared with a combination of flour, fat, cocoa powder, and sugar. Chocolate gravy is a frequently used type of gravy in the southern states of America and is a part of their day-to-day cuisine. It is normally served as a breakfast dish along with fresh biscuits and cookies mostly in the Appalachian and Ozark Mountain regions.

Normally milk is used to turn the gravy into liquid form while with the exception of a few chocolate gravies where water is used as the main liquid ingredient.

A few recipes use more sugar than normal and it totally depends on individual preferences. Conventionally a roux is prepared with flour, fat, cocoa powder, and sugar (dry ingredients) and then milk is added slowly and steadily along with continuous stirring.
