  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • To Make Crust: In a large bowl, mix together 1 1/2 cups flour, oil, milk, 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar and salt until evenly blended. Pat mixture into a 9 inch pie pan, spreading the dough evenly over the bottom and up sides. Crimp edges of the dough around the perimeter.
  • To Make Filling: Mix together 3/4 cup sugar, 3 tablespoons flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sprinkle over apples and toss to coat. Spread evenly in unbaked pie shell.
  • To Make Topping: Using a pastry cutter, mix together 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup sugar and butter until evenly distributed and crumbly in texture. Sprinkle over apples.
  • Put pie in the oven on a cookie sheet to catch the juices that may spill over. Bake 45 minutes.

How long does it take to cook a Fuji apple?

Whole apples take longer to be cooked through (30-40 minutes), but sliced apples are ready fast – all they need are 20 minutes in a 400°F oven. Should I add sugar? I don’t add any sugar when I make this recipe. Fuji apples provide more than enough sweetness, in my opinion. In fact, I find that fruit-based recipes rarely need added sugar.

What to do with Fuji apples?

These apples were very firm and kept their shape the whole time. Start with 9 of those flavorless, fuji apples- peeled and chopped. I like small pieces of apple so I can use it in more things like muffins or cakes. Sometimes I don’t feel like making a pie but I have a wagonload of judgy apples to use.

How to bake apple slices?

Place the apple slices in the prepared pan. Drizzle them with the melted butter and use your hands to coat them. Arrange them in the pan in a single layer. Sprinkle the tops of the slices with half the cinnamon. Bake for 10 minutes. Turn the apple pieces to the other side. Sprinkle them with the remaining cinnamon.

How do I make apple chips?

I am able to make a big batch of apple chips all at the same time. Here is a printable recipe with all the steps. Crunchy, fat free and healthy snack for the whole family. Wash and dry apples. Remove the core from each apple. Using a mandolin slicer, slice the apples 4 to 5 mm thick. (A little less than 1/4 inch.) Lay apple slices on cooling racks.
