Pechay Guisado Recipe | Life Gets Better | Del Monte

What is Pechay

Pechay is a type of Asian cabbage that is often used in stir-fries and other dishes. It has a slightly bitter taste, but is also crunchy and refreshing. Pechay can be found in most Asian markets, and is usually sold in bunches.

To prepare pechay, simply wash it well and trim off the ends. Pechay can be eaten raw or cooked, but is most commonly cooked in stir-fries or soups. When cooking pechay, be sure to not overcook it as it will become mushy.

Pechay vs Bok Choy

Pechay and bok choy are two vegetables that are often used in Asian cuisine. Both vegetables are similar in appearance, but there are some key differences between them.

Pechay is a member of the cabbage family and has a slightly sweeter flavor than bok choy. Pechay is also lower in calories and contains more vitamins A and C than bok choy.

Bok choy, on the other hand, is a type of Chinese cabbage and has a slightly bitter flavor. Bok choy is higher in calcium than pechay and also contains more vitamins B6 and folate.

So, which vegetable should you choose? It really depends on your personal preference and what you’re looking for in a vegetable. If you want something with a sweeter flavor, go for pechay.

Quick tips

Pechay is a leafy vegetable popular in Asian cuisine. It has a slightly bitter taste and is often used in stir-fries or soups.

If you’re looking to add pechay to your diet, here are a few quick tips:

  1. Look for pechay that has crisp, dark green leaves. Avoid wilted or yellowed leaves, as this is an indication of age.
  2. Pechay is best when used immediately after purchase. If you need to store it, keep it in the refrigerator wrapped in a damp paper towel.
  3. When cooking pechay, avoid overcooking as this will make it mushy and lose its flavor. Stir-fry or steam for just a few minutes until the leaves are wilted but still bright green.
