Yellow pea curry – Bengali style.

Ingredients:
Dried Yellow Peas,soaked and drained and boiled2 cupsOil, Oil,2 tablespoonsOnion,1 mediumCumin seeds,1/2 teaspoonBay leaf,1 Ginger,finely chopped1 teaspoonTurmeric powder,1/4 teaspoonTomato,chopped1 mediumRoasted cumin powder,2 teaspoonsFresh coconut,sliced1/4 cupSalt, to tasteGreen chillies,slit2 Garam masala powder,1/2 teaspoon |
Steps:
- Heat oil in a non stick pan. Chop onion. Add cumin seeds, bay leaf and onion to the pan and sauté till lightly browned.
- Add ginger, turmeric powder, tomato and a little water and mix. Sauté till tomato becomes pulpy.
- Add peas and mix well. Add ¼ cup water and salt. Add cumin powder and coconut slices and mix well.
- Add green chillies, garam masala powder and mix. Cover and cook on medium heat for 5 minutes. Serve hot.
