- 1 pound of spaghetti

- 1/2 cup olive oil

- 4 cloves garlic, minced

- 1 (28 ounce) can of diced tomatoes, undrained

- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil

- 1 teaspoon of salt

- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
  2. Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package directions.
  3. Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  4. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  5. Add the tomatoes, basil, salt, and pepper and bring to a simmer.
  6. Cook until the sauce has thickened, about 15 minutes.
  7. Drain the spaghetti and add it to the saucepan with the tomato sauce.
  8. Toss to combine.
  9. Serve warm.

Notes

Using fresh ingredients is key to a good spaghetti and tomato sauce. If you can, use ripe tomatoes picked straight from the vine. If you're using tinned tomatoes, give them a suitable drain before using them in the sauce. The fresher the ingredients, the better the dish will taste.

Another important tip is not to overcook the pasta. Spaghetti is best cooked al dente, which means it should be cooked until it is tender but still has a bit of a bite. If you overcook the pasta, it will become mushy and the sauce will not cling to it.

Once you have cooked the pasta, it's time to assemble the dish. Start by adding the cooked pasta to a large bowl. Then, add the tomato sauce and any other ingredients you like. Finally, top it off with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and a sprinkle of basil leaves.
